Welcome to the Tone Zone Runners website..................

Committee Members

Mike Monk
President
As New Year 2001 approached my family "suggested" that I needed to lose some weight so my New Year's resolution was to try to get fit enough (and light enough!) to run the Bognor Prom 10k in May. I decided to join the Tone Zone Runners thinking it might help. My first run was a disaster. I only managed to reach Butlins! But over the following weeks with encouragement from the Coaches and other runners progress was made and I managed to get round my first 10K - a great feeling. During that time I was honoured to be asked if I would become club President. I accepted only to realise that I couldn't give up running after the Bognor 10K! So here I am several years, with quite a few races, later feeling good and managing to keep the weight down. I see my role as supporting the Club Committee and our Club runners. I am keen to ensure that we continue to provide for runners of all ages and abilities and to encourage members achieve, and even surpass, their hopes and goals.

Mike Batstone
Club Secretary
The club is an informal one which caters for the members who just want company to run with, for the competitive there are many races which our members participate in. I like the occasional competitive run but nowadays I select a race for its location above any other reason i.e. New Forest 10 miles, Seaford 1/2 Marathon. It seems to be compulsory that you have to do a London Marathon to be a fully fledged TZ Runner, after 5 years of 'rejections' in the ballot I gained an entry in the 25th Anniversary event and got round in a cruel time of 3hrs 59mins 83secs - perhaps I will have to do another one?
In February 2008 I was press ganged into becoming the Club Secretary / Chariman. My aim will be to keep all the red trape as up-to-date as possible, to keep the troublesome bunch who say they are the Committee in order and to continue to enjoy running.
Keep on Running!

Karen Harrison
Treasurer/Women's Captain
Hi, I'm Karen Harrison. I've been with the Tone Zone Runners pretty much since it started around 1999. I am ladies captain, treasurer of the committee and a level 1 coach. I started running with a friend in 1998 who decided we should do a sponsored run for her sons school, and somehow I haven't really stopped! I really enjoy the personal challenge. You gain a real sense of achievement at what ever level you run at. I have completed 5 London Marathons and this year I also did the Loch Ness marathon which was fantastic. I still maintain the best one was the first one, I thought I'd conquered the world! The Tone Zone Runners are a very friendly club, and people of ALL abilities are welcome. I very much enjoy meeting the other club members, and from a coaching point of view, sharing my knowledge and experience with some of the newer members. Look forward to running with you!!

Alan Argent
Men's Captain
Hi, my name is Alan, I started working out in the Tone Zone Gym round about 1998, in 1999 a small group of us got together to sample some out door running, I was not to keen at first but with lots of encourgement from Mike Young and lots of banter it gradually grew on me and I still love it to this day, the banter and the running. Carl Belcher asked I would like to be Male captain, which I am still to this day. I try to have a chat with most members (when I remember your names) and hopefully motivate you along the way. I also sit on the committee and arrange various tasks for us all to enjoy. As well as running on club nights Wed. and Friday we often meet at Arundel on Sunday mornings for social run and hill work, followed by a full english breakfast!! (optional). I have completed four London Marathons, lots of half marathons and loads of 10k's. The Tone Zone Running Club is a very friendly club with a great social side to it, it's not all about running to win but also to enjoy your running. So if you think it's for you we will be more happy to see you.

Tony Flint
Race Secretary
I started running in 2001, training for the Bognor 10k, I did this race and didn't run again until January 2002 when I joined the Tone Zone Runners, since then I have been a regular runner, running two or three times a week and regularly entering races, the highlight for me was completing the London Marathon in 2006.
I joined the Tone Zone Runners committee in November 2006 and became the Race Secretary.
As Race Secretary my job is to find and to list all road and cross country races in our area, to get entry forms or on-line addresses for entries for these races, also I will try and find out about races in others parts of the country for members.

Michelle Etheridge

I have been running for 4 years, have been member of Tone Zone Runners for 3 1/2 years. Really enjoy the social side of the club as well as the running. First Race; Marwell 10k. Best achievement; completing the London Marathon in April 2007.

Keith Hardwell
Head Coach
I joined Tone Zone Runners in late 2000 as I had been accepted for the London marathon. Since then i have been a active member of the club, running distance's from 5k up to marathons.
I became a level 1 coach in 2003 and have now progressed to UKA level 2 coach. I have also completed Fit 2 run 1,2 and advanced course's through Newcastle college.
The club, coach's and members welcome all abilities of runners and with the help of my fellow coach's we'd like to help you achieve your own goals in running.

Website Administrator
I always disliked running at school so when a friend asked if I would train with her for the Bognor 10k in 2002 I was filled with trepidation!! But somehow I caught the running bug and its now something I really love.
I have completed many races from 5k to marathon distances and can't ever see me giving up.
I joined the committee in May 2008 and my role is to upload content to the website so that it gives all club members a central place to find all types of information about the club and running in general.
Please feel free to use the relevant links on the site to send your Race Reports and Photo's etc for inclusion on the site.

Vicki Weiss
Fund Raising
My name is Vicki, I joined right at the beginning, before it became Tone Zone. It was to help me run the Bognor 10k and I have been here ever since, watching the club go from strength to strength. It is a friendly club and I enjoy the social side too.
I have run the London Marathon and a number of half marathons. I am not a fast runner but that doesn't matter as long as I can do some sort of running, I am pleased to finish whatever my time.
I joined the committee and my job is to help build up funding so each year we can sponsor a needy cause.
I am also becoming a coach to help those who join our club who are beginners.

Brian Etheridge
Social Secretary
I started running at the end of 2004. Having previously been an overweight couch potato who smoked.
Running successfully helped me give up the smoking and to loose weight. I have run 3 Marathons and in my last one was happy to knock 50 mins + off my previous PB.
My greatest achievements so far has been to win Runner of the Year, and to improve my overall times.
I am so pleased to be a part of such a great club who not only compete in races but have a great crowd as members, many who have become great friends.
