This weekend, 78 members ran over a total of 600 miles in 17 different events. The big event of the weekend was the Brighton Marathon where we had 10 runners. The conditions were perfect for the marathon runners other than a strong headwind for the final four miles.
Christo Oosthuizen was the first to finish for the club in a time of 3 hours 10 minutes. Gary Pidgeon who had been aiming to break 3 hours 30 minutes did just that, with a personal best time of 3 hours 27 minutes. In a very impressive time of 3 hours 36 minutes Juliet Stallard completed her first marathon, with smiles and waves all the way round. Gary Smith finished in a time of 4 hours 7 minutes. Ben Leney was also running his first marathon, accompanied by fellow club member Alan Coombs they both finished in 4 hours 26 minutes and 4 hours 34 minutes. Helena Wilmers also recorded a personal best time in 4 hours 38 minutes, with Grace Natoli following with the same time. Gervais Ward finished just under the 5 hour mark with a time 4 hours 56 minutes, and coming back from injury was Simon Bodsworth who finished in 6 hours 6 minutes.
Across the English Channel was another marathon, the Paris Marathon. Danny Mahoney ran a very consistent and storming race, to gallop along the famous Avenue Foch in a fantastic personal best of 3 hours 12 minutes. Peter Ramsdale was the other club member in Paris who also ran a good race to finish in 4 hours 15 minutes.
Back in Brighton was the Brighton 10k, where Julie Ede snuck in just under the hour mark in a time of 58 minutes. Tina Ede finished in 1 hour 10 minutes, Nic Baglee loved the event and finished in 1 hour 48 minutes.
We had another international race this weekend, over in Budapest 7 ladies ran the Half Marathon. Debs Pacey, Susi Briggs, Karen Blackman, Caroline Edwards, Jackie Williamson and Lisa Robinson all ran together to finish in 2 hours 20 minutes. Another great international race for the group.
At the famous Goodwood Motor Circuit we had runners running in the 10k, Half Marathon and Marathon distance. Sean Power ran the race in a time of 41.40 after returning from a broken foot. Daryl Fairbrother wasn’t far behind in a time of 43.35. Catriona Power who has been trying to break the hour finished in 1 hour 29 seconds but it was a long course so we’ll let her off this time. Lucy Brand was just behind in 1 hour 1 minute. In the Half Marathon event Stephen Goddard finished in 1 hour 56 minutes. In the Marathon was Tony Holcombe running a total of 11 laps around the track and finishing in a time of 4 hours 18 minutes.
