London Marathon 2019
Well what a weekend that was! 3 different marathons and 19 different club members running them! The main event of the weekend was the London Marathon, running around the sights of London, hearing the massive crowds and heading past Buckingham to the finish line is a dream for most runners, not forgetting the elusive medal.
14 of our runners experienced that on Sunday 28 April. Kari Mack ran a personal best and an outstanding time of 3 hours 12 minutes, to beat the ladies club marathon record set by herself last year. Duncan Stephenson-Gill demolished the demons that he had at last year’s race, to finish in a time of 3 hours 16 minutes. Another very notable performance was Carolyn Stapley who after having a tough 2018 came back with a 15 minute PB and joined the sub 3:30 club in a time of 3 hours 29 minutes. Anne Kari Enes who never seems to struggle ran a consistent race as she always does to finish in 3 hours 31 minutes. Ian Bayley back on the streets of London again this year and finished in 3 hours 52 minutes. Donna Strowger, Karen Vilday and Lucy Isitt all finished close together and all gained PBs. Strowger executed her race plan exceptionally well to finish in 4:24. Vilday and Isitt ran the perfect race together with smiles and waves all the way, finishing in 4:26. David Butler and Paul Stevenson finished in 4:37 and 4:53. Jade Fish ran an impressive race and finished in a time of 5 hours 2 minutes. After only starting running last year, Elle Matthews put in all the hours of training and completed her first ever marathon in a time of 5 hours 12 minutes. Nicola Kettley also ran her first marathon in 5:32, just ahead of Natalie Strudwick 5:35 which was a Personal Best for Strudwick.
Another Marathon this weekend was the Blackpool Marathon. Running buddies Carl Bryant and Andy Miles had trained together all year for this, both runners battled the winds on the South Coast to finish both achieve a personal best of 4 hours 5 minutes.
The third Marathon of the weekend was the Madrid Marathon, in a slightly warmer and less windy climate. Mark and Jackie Williamson were the first two home in a time of 3:58 and 4:20.Grace Natoli added another Marathon to her tally this year and finished in 4:45. Derek Natoli was running the Half Marathon in Madrid and finished in 2 hours 10 minutes.
Closer to home in Angmering was the Bluebell 10 mile and 10k, running through the local woods. Jess Thomson was the 2nd lady to finish on the day in an incredible time of 1 hour 11 minutes. Rebecca Nicholl was the second club runner to finish in a time of 1:20, with Peter Ramsdale sneaking under the 1:30 barrier too. Zoe Hemes, Sarah Stothard and Andrew Medlock all finished in 1 hour 37 minutes. Leigh Paige continued hergood form this year and finished in 1 hour 54 minutes. In the 10k Jo Andrews finished just over the hour mark in 1:03, an impressive time on an off-road course.
