Brighton to Vegas in a weekend!
A super busy last weekend of February 2023 for Bognor Regis Tone Zone Runners with over 26 club members running in 5 different races in Brighton, Kingley Vale, Lulworth Cove and Las Vegas! Starting in Brighton for the annual Half Marathon, 15 flew the flag for the Bognor based club. Ryan Meager was first home for the club and managed to dip under the illusive 90 minute barrier in 1:29:23. Nathan Bilham was next for the club, narrowly missing out on a sub 90 time with 1:32:13 an 8 minute PB nonetheless. Jess Thomson showed she’s ready for her next marathon in a few weeks’ time with a strong finish of 1:35, just two minutes ahead of Duncan Stephenson-Gill in 1:37. Daryl Fairbrother and Gary Griffiths snuck under 1:40, both finishing in the low 1:39s. Anne Enes finished in 1:40 with Jon Comins 4 minutes further back. Guy Hodgson and Richard Forward on his 50th birthday finished closely together with 1:50 and 1:51 respectively, closely followed by Stuart Thomson in 1:53. Rodney Morley led Gary Smith home both finishing in 2:05 and 2:06. Whilst Tony Holcombe and Louise Maddison also finished within a few minutes of each other in 2:11 and 2:14.
Over at Kingley Vale, 4 brave runners took on the half marathon which has over 1,800ft of climbing! Steph Hilton-Smith was the first to finish in 2:11:20 but was closely followed by Drew Kelly (2:12), Allen Porter (2:12) and John Williams (2:15).
Another hilly race this weekend was the Lulworth Cove 12k, with 1,500ft elevation along the Jurassic Coast. Jack Penfold was the sole club runner there and finished in 1:05 to take 3rd place overall.
In a much flatter part of the world Lisa Broad, Sarah Baker-Brown and Stephen Brown ran the Las Vegas 5k and Half Marathon a day apart! In the 5k the trio finished in 32 minutes in one of the wettest races they’ve ever experienced. The following day the three flew the flag again in the Half Marathon, with Sarah and Stephen finishing in 2:22 and Lisa in 2:41 in slightly better weather, then were then able to finally relax and enjoy the sights Vegas has to offer.
A few weeks previous was the Aintree Half Marathon where Jason Abell finished in a new PB of 1:18 finishing high up the results list, Lisa Broad was across the line in 2 hours 18 minutes and John Abell finished in a PB and first in his age category in 2 hours 30 minutes.
